Helmut Horn – Executive Chairman of Portfolio Hotels & Resorts
One of the leading figures in the boutique hotel industry, Helmut Horn created Coastal Hotel Group in 1987, building it into a renowned boutique company that operated some of the finest resorts and hotels in the world including Hotel Jerome, Highlands Inn, Salish Lodge and Spa, Stein Eriksen Lodge and Bitter End Yacht Club. Horn was also responsible for developing the concept for Hawthorne Suites during his tenure at Coastal Hotel Group.
Prior to that position, Horn was Group Director and Vice President in charge of the six Dunfey Classic Hotels (now part of Omni Hotels). In 1974, he joined Hyatt International Hotel Corporation as Operations Coordinator for the entire Far East and Australia region, based in Hong Kong. Horn was also opening General Manager of the United Nations Plaza Hotel in New York, operated by Hyatt International.
A native of Germany, he graduated from the School of Commerce and Economics in Nordhorn, and the Hotel Administration School of Heidelberg, Germany.
Graham Hershman – CFO of Portfolio Hotels & Resorts
As Chief Financial Officer, Hershman is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operation and financial strategy of Portfolio Hotels & Resorts and its managed properties. Hershman ensures that each hotel operates within the standards and policies of the company while maintaining a focus on bottom-line profitability for owners. Hershman is responsible for all financial reporting, budgeting and cash management. In addition, he assists in the development of financial performance, financing and project evaluations for new hotel investment and management opportunities.
Hershman joined Horizon Hotel Company (a predecessor of Coastal Hotel Group) in April 1986 and founded Coastal Hotel Group with Helmut Horn in 1987. They built Coastal Hotel Group into a renowned boutique hotel management company with a portfolio of more than 25 managed properties at its peak. Hershman began his professional experience with Arthur Anderson. Prior to joining Horizon, he held the position of Corporate Controller for Hyatt International Corporation, responsible for the management of properties in Asia, Middle East and Europe. He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Economics, and has an M.B.A. in Finance from Loyola University.
